Each room holds a secret

My perfect client is the one who only remembers to ask for the Wi-Fi password after spending half a day immersed in nature. It means they’ve fully surrendered to the Scuderia Castello experience—and that’s no small thing - Giovanni Zambiasi

Each room features its own private bathroom. All rooms, except one, include a balcony or terrace offering stunning views of Lake Garda and Mount Baldo.

The Lemon Room

Many years ago, the Lemon Room was rented by a lady who was desperate because she had found out her husband was cheating on her with a younger woman.

She asked if she could stay as long as it would took her to heal from her pain. During the following three months, her pain turned into revenge: she still had her ex-husband's credit cards.

She shopped like crazy and to these days everybody still remembers her leaving just before Christmas: her Volkswagen Golf full of shopping bags plus a van with a driver loaded with designer bags and wine bottles.

It seems that spending just three nights in this room can trigger compulsive shopping sprees—that’s why we recommend bringing prepaid credit cards only… just in case!

The Pomegranate Room

During our first year of opening, a beautiful woman stayed in the Pomegranate Room for a few days. She had come alone to enjoy nature, horseback riding, and our delicious food.

At the time, the Pomegranate Room featured pink bed linens, while the neighboring room was decorated with green ones. Strangely, every night, items seemed to switch between the two rooms: a pink pillow would end up in the green room, or a green blanket would appear in the pink room. This mysterious exchange continued for an entire week.

No one ever discovered the cause. The neighboring room was occupied by a reserved and pious priest, who abruptly left before completing his stay when one of his socks and a pair of underwear were found in the Pomegranate Room. The holy man departed, leaving the attractive woman alone with her unsolved mystery.

"We still advise our guests to keep their underwear and blankets safely stored in the wardrobe—just in case they don’t want to knock on their neighbor’s door in the morning."

The Orange Room

The Orange Room hides a peculiar corner, often overlooked by our guests. It features a French window and a smaller window that cast light into a seemingly insignificant nook.

The first person to realize its unique charm was an elderly German doctor in his eighties, who loved reading. He asked us to move an old wicker chair into this nook and spent hours—days even—reading there. Between chapters, he would glance out the window to admire the Church of Gaino, dedicated to Archangel Michael. He even adjusted the chair to a precise 45° angle to let in more light.

After just a few days, something remarkable happened—his aches and pains vanished. Setting aside his books, he carefully began exploring the nearby hills on horseback.

Years later, a dowser explained to us that the chair’s position aligned with a meridian of the Earth's geomagnetic network, a flow of energy believed to benefit both body and spirit.

“The armchair days are far from over. Though it shows signs of wear, the chair is still there. Bring a book—there’s no better place to lose yourself in its pages.”

The Grapes Room

The Grapes Room is the brightest of all, adorned with poetic vineyard paintings and featuring a large terrace. Situated in the North-East corner, this spacious bedroom offers breathtaking views of the lake, the olive-studded plateau of Gaino, and the charming village of Folino.

However, guests who stay in this room often seem to fall under the spell of Bacchus, the Greek god of wine. I’ve lost count of how many have indulged a bit too much, only to wake up the next morning with their shoes still on.

But that’s not all. Occasionally, guests mistake the wardrobe for the bathroom, and, well… the results are exactly as you’d imagine.

“Now, we try to be selective and rent the room to non-drinkers—or at least we make sure to warn our guests about the risks of overindulging. While we don’t want to diminish the joy of a good bottle of wine—after all, it’s no sin—we do aim to prevent the wardrobe from needing frequent replacements.”

The Buttero Flat

Located on the ground floor, this room features a covered front porch. However, the story it holds is far more significant than the tranquility and privacy it offers.

Over the years, many guests have stayed in this room, each one unique, but some truly stand out—men and women who share a love for horses and have become a part of Scuderia Castello’s story. One such guest was Decio, an elderly buttero (cowboy) from Civitella Cesi, a hidden gem in Tuscia—a land deeply tied to horses and tradition.

This kind 75-year-old man once guided us on an unforgettable horseback tour of his homeland, the Maremma Viterbese. When our journey ended, Decio returned north with us to visit our region, filled with olive trees—“distant relatives,” as he called them, of those his ancestors, the Etruscans, had brought to these lands long ago.

Decio stayed with us for several months, becoming one of the first woofers in Italy, long before the practice of exchanging work for food and accommodation became common. His ancient wisdom and calm demeanor left a lasting imprint on our home. To this day, his peaceful spirit seems to linger on the porch, where he used to sit every evening, watching the sunset.

“These days, the Buttero Room is often occupied by Marco, a legendary master of Spiedo Bresciano (traditional spit-roasting). Spending a few nights here is sure to cure any loss of appetite.”

The Green Flat

We affectionately call it the “Travel Agency” because anyone who stays here has the opportunity—simply by purchasing a ticket—to embark on a unique journey to distant and mysterious corners of the universe. Sleeping in this bedroom opens the door to dreams and unknown dimensions.

Once, a man went so far as to disassemble the bed and sleep under the porch to avoid taking this extraordinary journey. On the other hand, some courageous guests return year after year, eager to explore the infinite worlds within their souls.

The secret of this remarkable flat lies in an underground creek that flows through the Scuderia Castello farmhouse, passing 20 meters below The Green Flat. The energy of the running water seems to awaken feelings and perceptions, making every stay a truly unforgettable experience.

“Tip: The boundary between the dream state and reality is razor-thin, making it easy to lose track of where you truly are. The only way to find your way back is to follow the water and dive fearlessly into the depths of your intuition. In any case, please don’t disassemble the bed! (Thank you).”
